The legend says that Cadmus, the son of Phoenix or Agenor (king of Phoenicia) and queen Telefasa, left his home country in search of his sister Europa, who was abducted by Zeus, disguised as a bull. During his search, he stayed in many Greek cities and, following the instructions of the Oracle of Delphi, he settled down in Boeotia, where he founded the famous city of Thebes and ruled it for a long time. The gods gave him the blonde Harmonia, the daughter of the god Ares and the goddess Aphrodite, as his wife.
As a very old man, he was forced to leave Thebes, and so Cadmus travelled to Illyria with Harmonia, to live among the Encheleans, on a team of oxen, and established a new town – Bouthoe. A legend has it that Budva was named after the oxen that brought Cadmus and Harmonia to this region (Greek: bous – ox).

The Budva Riviera is 35 km long part of the Adriatic coast in Montenegro, which is located in the small town of Budva. It is situated almost in the center of Montenegrin coast and it’s the metropolis of tourism in Montenegro. There are 12,5km long beaches in the Budva Riviera. The main tourist centers are Budva, Petrovac and Sveti Stefan. In Budva, there are several beaches and all of them are equally beautiful, sandy beaches, rocky beaches as well as pebble beaches: Slovenska beach, Jaz, Mogren, Trsteno, Ploče…

In line with antique historical sources, written heritage and rich archeological material, Budva is one of the oldest urban centers at the Adriatic, over 2,500 years old. A lot of monumental heritages from Antique and Middle Ages are proofs of continuing and active life of this antique town. Illyrians, i.e. this Illyrian tribe Enhelian, are the oldest autochthon people of Budva.
In the 5th century B.C. Greek tragedian Sophocles, among first writers mentions Budva “Illyrian town”. In the 4th century B.C. it is colonized by the Greek, when it became a rich trade center (emporion), while in the middle of the 2nd century B.C. or more precisely in 168, it was conquered by the Roman Empire. In 1st century of new era, Roman writer Pliny the elder mentioned it as a „fortified town of roman citizens“. Budva had in that period all the features of a true Roman town with monumental buildings, paved roads and massive walls. It will remain within Roman Empire until its fall in 395.

Montenegro is situated in the south-western part of the Balkan Peninsula and it faces the Adriatic Sea, so it is Balkans country as well as Mediterranean country.
